  • Pastor's Weekly Message

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,

         Dear Brothers and Sisters,

This weekend we observe the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Our focus is drawn in a singular way to the great mystery of the Sacrament of the Eucharist, and its prominent place within our lives. This Sacrament of Christ, truly present with us, is the source and the summit of our Christian lives. Throughout the Easter Season, we celebrated with joy the Resurrection of Christ up until the sending of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. Last week, we observed Trinity Sunday, marveling at the oneness of a Triune God, which had been revealed to us through the mission of Christ and the sending of the Spirit. And with today’s great feast, we see how through the power of the Holy Spirit, we remain united in and with Christ, so that we might participate now in the life of our loving God and offer perfect sacrifice to the Father.

In this weekend’s homily, I will be sharing some practical reminders for our Eucharistic celebrations, several of which come directly from Bishop Senior in the pastoral letter which he wrote for today’s feast. Additionally, we will be offering Holy Communion under both forms. This is also a moment to recall that receiving the Eucharist even only one form, either the consecrated host or from the chalice, one receives the entirety of the Sacrament, the body and blood, soul and divinity of Christ. Finally, we will be gradually reintroducing the use of the communion patens. Our altar servers have been practicing and will be assisting us with this. They will keep the paten underneath the host, showing reverence in case the host is dropped or a particle fall from it. I know that this will take some getting used to, but this will be an opportunity for all of us to show greater reverence to our Lord.

After the Spanish Mass this Sunday, starting at about 1:00, we will also have a

Eucharistic Procession from St. Mary’s to St. Patrick’s, which will include a walk around Penn Park. We would love for you to join us in this public witness to our faith in Christ’s true presence. In the event of inclement weather, we will have a Eucharistic Holy Hour in its place.

This is also Festival week! Our team has been preparing for months, and we hope that you will join us for two days of great food, entertainment, and fellowship!

    God bless you!

    Fr. Kuchinski
